What about WhatsApp and SMS? What are the potential pitfalls of communicating with clients via such electronic means?
Electronic communication is changing the way we read, think, and work: we process information while on the go, have shorter attention spans, and want immediate answers. This seminar will explore how lawyers, as professionals, should adapt their drafting skills and styles to meet the demands of electronic communication.
How you write and what you say can speak volumes about you as a person, a lawyer, a professional. We will, therefore, also revisit the basics of drafting by discussing common language errors. The English language is a potential minefield. If you have been flummoxed by the differences between terms such as “compare with” and compare to” or “affect” and “effect” or “alternate” and “alternative”, this seminar, organised by the Publications Committee, is for you.
This is not a seminar on legal drafting. It is about day-to-day writing of emails and messages to clients, fellow lawyers and other stakeholders. It is about conveying a good first impression to the people who matter through the use of a lawyer’s greatest strength – the written word.
