Global eSports revenue is expected to grow to US$1.5 billion by 2020 and over 51% of eSports fans are from the Asia-Pacific region, according to NewZoo. This year’s South East Asia Games in Manila will feature several eSports games as medal events, and prize pools for eSports tournaments are starting to catch up to traditional sports. There is clearly a lot of momentum and interest around eSports, and where there’s a growing audience there’s also opportunity.

In this FYI session we provide a wireframe for the digital industry to approaching and understanding the marketing opportunities presented by eSports.

A good warm-up is the best way to prepare for a match. To start off the afternoon, we’re doing a pop quiz on some eSports lingo, tournaments to watch out for, big headlines, and more!

3:20pm to 3:50pm - Keynote: eSports for noobs beginners (30 minutes)

After the pop quiz, it’s time to put on your learning hats as we hear all about what eSports actually is. This keynote will explain why millions of people tune in to watch others play video games - and how technology and sponsorships has driven that growth. We will also explore what types of marketing opportunities eSports presents and how livestreaming has created new ways to engage audiences.

3:50pm to 4:30pm - Panel: How to level up your branding game (40 minutes)

In this panel we will hear from brands and agencies who have taken the plunge about their experiences with eSports. We’ll hear all about the risks, challenges and push-back they faced when making the decision to invest - and what kind of support they still need to make it work. This panel will also feature insight from the eSports side on what they need from the digital industry to be able to keep growing, highlighting areas where growth can still be driven.
