It introduces the technology, with a particular focus on those characteristics that make them legally challenging, and considers how crypto-assets and smart contracts fit within core legal frameworks such as ownership and contract. Topics discussed include: fundamentals and applications of blockchain technology, how crypto-assets are transferred, proprietary rights in crypto assets, security rights, competing ownership rights, whether smart contracts are contracts, “interpreting” smart contracts, consensus and the law.
