Co-organised also with the Li Ka Shing Foundation and Vertex Venture Holdings, this half day event features 7 of Horizons Ventures’ investees, each using interesting disruptive technology from plant-based meat and leather to brain-sensing headbands to manage stress. Horizons Ventures is Li Ka Shing's venture capital firm that focuses investments mainly on disruptive technology startups.
Techcracker is an event dedicated to inspiring change and new ideas in the technology, commercial and educational sectors and brings together students, co-organizers, corporations, press and startups. It aims to empower a global community of like-minded individuals to build a more sustainable and responsible future, encouraging these greater communities to explore new ways of tackling existing problems.

Eran Edan, Co-founder & CEO, MeMed
Dr. Eden has been CEO of MeMed since its inception in 2009, leading it through several financing rounds and rapid growth. He has 12 years of combined business and academic experience leading cutting-edge interdisciplinary technologies that synergize molecular biology and informatics. Dr. Eden holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (Cum Laude), B.A. in Biology (Cum Laude), and M.Sc. in Computer Science (Cum Laude) from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Systems Biology from the Weizmann Institute of Science. During his Ph.D., Dr. Eden was a leading scientist in the development of a pioneering technology that allowed, for the first time, to track the proteome and fate of individual living human cancer cells. Dr. Eden is the co-author of 8 patents and 13 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in science and technology including the prestigious GE and Science Prize for Promising Young Life Scientists.
MeMed's disruptive technologies decodes the body's immune response in order to guide treatment of infectious diseases, empower physicians to reduce antibiotic misuse, and address antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Andras Forgacs, Co-founder & CEO, Modern Meadow
An entrepreneur in tissue engineering, Andras Forgacs is the co-founder and CEO of Modern Meadow, a company developing fundamentally new ways to grow meat and leather with better properties, no need for animal slaughter and much lower inputs of land, water, energy and chemicals. Modern Meadow has been recognized among the 100 most brilliant companies of 2013 by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Previously, Andras co-founded Organovo (NYSE: ONVO), which uses 3D bioprinting to create human tissues for pharmaceutical research and medical applications. Organovo’s bioprinting technology was recognized as one of TIME magazine’s inventions of the year in 2010 and by MIT Technology Review on its TR50 list of most innovative companies for 2012. Earlier, Andras had served as a consultant with McKinsey and developed award winning financial technology products with Citigroup.
He is also co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of the international non-profit Resolution Project. Andras was a Kauffman Fellow with the Center for Venture Education and a Term Member with the Council on Foreign Relations. Andras holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Harvard University.
Ariel Garten, Co-founder & CEO, Muse
Ariel Garten is the CEO and co-founder of InteraXon, which creates thought controlled computing products and applications. Ariel has also researched at the Krembil Neuroscience Institute studying hippocampal neurogenesis, displayed work at the Art Gallery of Ontario, been head designer at a fashion label, and opened Toronto Fashion Week. Referred to as the “Brain Guru”, Ariel and her team’s work has been featured in hundreds of articles in over 20 countries.
InteraXon are currently head down, bringing Muse, the brain sensing headband, to market. Muse: the brain sensing headband helps you do more with your mind by providing exercises designed to manage stress and settle your mind. Managing stress is the first step to creating a stronger connection to the mind and reaping longer-term benefits (improved concentration, composure and more).
Meron Gribetz, Co-founder & CEO, Meta
Founder and CEO, Meron Gribetz previously worked in an elite technological unit in the Israel Defense Forces and has project-managed the creation of similar devices for the military, subsequently studying computer science and neuroscience at Columbia University.
Raymond Lo, Co-founder & CTO, Meta
Raymond is the currently the CTO (co-founder) of Meta company (www.spaceglasses.com). During his master and PhD study in the University of Toronto, Raymond and his supervisor Prof. Steve Mann who is often described as the 'father of wearable' had developed numerous Extreme Dynamic Range digital eyeglasses solutions which allow wearers to see in extreme contrast scene, often over a million-to-one contrast ratio, such as welding. Later, he developed several wearable eyeglasses with range imaging capabilities and lead him to the current development of Spaceglasses. His expertise in computer image processing and wearable/mobile computing have been pushing Meta forward quickly in a such competitive domain.
Corey Harrower, COO, Roli (Update: Corey will replace Ning Xu as the speaker from Roli.)
Corey Harrower, COO of Roli, has a diversified background including contemporary dance, carpentry, cooking, administration, emergency medicine and conflict resolution. He has extensive bringing groups together and leading teams. He believes in the value of listening as a means of better understanding others, understanding oneself and as a tool to build and foster community.
Georg Polzer, Co-founder & CEO, Teralytics
Georg Polzer is CEO of Teralytics, a company analyzing vast amounts of complex data about human behavior. Insights based on such data are being used by businesses and governments around the world to improve their decision making and to deliver better customer experience. Georg Polzer graduated in Master of Science in Computer Science from ETH Zurich. He also researched Big Data at ETH Zurich Since 2010.
