About the Programme

Day 1: 9.00am - 2.30pm

Day 2: 9.00am - 3.10pm

The Presidents of Law Associations in Asia (POLA), established in 1990, is a non-partisan organisation providing a forum for the leaders of bar associations from across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange views, ideas and engage in collaborative activities on topics of mutual interest. The POLA Conference, hosted each year by a different member, is the principal forum where members and colleagues come together at a high level summit gathering to solve common issues and problems while fostering closeness and international understanding. This year, after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Law Society of Singapore is proud to be hosting the 32nd POLA Conference in Singapore.

As our nations pivot towards our respective pandemic strategies, we are faced with new and ongoing disruptions caused by geopolitical uncertainty due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, United States-China relations and economic headwinds. This presents an unprecedented set of challenges and issues for the law firms of tomorrow or the “next normal” law firms. As we grapple with these challenges, the right strategies, resources and support are needed for our law firms to continue to thrive.

Some of the issues to be addressed during the POLA Conference include: (1) how can we build our lawyers’ resilience and leverage on technology to transform our firms into the ‘next normal law firms’?; (2) How can we better invest in, and prepare our, younger lawyers for future challenges? How can law firm leaders deploy strategies of diversity and inclusion to manage successfully?

Themed ‘The “Next Normal” Law Firm’, the upcoming POLA Conference will feature five exciting panel discussions with influential bar leaders in the region. These apex bar leaders bring along a wealth of insights drawn from their experience and expertise on topics such as post-pandemic issues, technology, young lawyers, mental wellness and diversity and inclusion.
